Brief History of DISC & DISC Learning Academy
This timeline shows the relevant history of DISC as it relates to DISC Learning Academy and University of Central Missouri. Because Marston's work is now in the public domain, there are multiple flavors of DISC in the marketplace. This means that all DISC providers are not created equal and some providers will offer assessments with little to no validation. Be discerning picking your DISC partner.
DISC Invented
In 1928, WIlliam Moulton Marston publishes Emotions of Normal People which characterized four major behavioral types.
Fun facts: Marston is also credited with contributions to the modern polygraph and the creator of Wonder Woman.

DISC self-assessment created
In 1956, Walter Clark built on Marston's ground breaking work and created a self-assessment to improve hiring practices. But this was just the beginning, because countless different DISC assessments have been created since then.
Personality Insights Founded
In 1991, Robert Rohm, Ph.D., founded Personality Insights to provide a distinctly positive way to build stronger teams and relationships. Dr. Rohm has been featured on PBS, earned a World Series ring for his role in using DISC to help build the winning team, and has trained more than 2 million people in live sessions including over 1000 Certified Human Behavior consultants.
UCM introduces DISC into workforce programs
In 2010, UCM looked for ways to boost the success of workforce candidates and after researching various options chose to partner with Dr. Rohm and DISC. His impressive track record coupled with the affordability, accuracy and simplicity of DISC were a winning combination. After incorporating DISC into all workforce programs, UCM witnessed program graduates enjoying dramatic improvement in on-the-job success.
UCM creates interactive DISC course
In 2020, UCM created an interactive self-paced DISC course based on the latest in brain science to cover the foundations of DISC, provide a self-assessment, and interactive scenarios for real world application all from the comfort of your home or office.
